Odd looks.....

Alexandra loves hymns, really. We have often taken our hymnal and sung different hymns at night just to have some fun. We also really like the CDs by Indelible Grace. They have taken many hymns and set them to more modern music. Two of Alexandra's favorites are "Arise My Soul, Arise" and "A Debtor to Mercy Alone" (oddly enough, they are two of our favorites too). She knows so many hymns - she even knows all five verses to "Amazing Grace". At Alexandra's preschool, they are doing a Christmas program and her class is singing "O Come All Ye Faithful". We have sung this many, many times in the past two weeks.

So, today we tried out yet another church. Alexandra didn't want to go back to the nursery at first, so we checked it out at the end of the service just in case we go back next week. Alexandra and I(Susan) went back and went into the 3 year old room. One of the workers came over, talked to us, and I explained that we were just looking around. She then asked Alexandra what her favorite song was and Alexandra responded "O Come All Ye Faithful". The nursery worker didn't quite know what to do with Alexandra's response. We definitely got an odd look. I remarked that we sing a lot of hymns at home (music seems to calm our children and we take full advantage) and we received yet another strange look. Yes, we may be odd to some - we really enjoy the depth of the words of hymns. Apparently, Alexandra is just following in our footsteps.

This verse from "Father Long Before Creation" sums us up:
Though the world may change its fashion,
