Opened eyes

Some friends of ours in Oregon have a little boy who possesses a HUGE amount of imagination and because of that imagination, is extremely brave and cautious. (Yep, it's Jake for those of you in Oregon) The mom wrote a post about learning how she is learning to view him in a different manner, to realize that things that might seem improable to occur to most people, to him are very real possibilites. Thus, he is brave because danger could be lurking anywhere.

That post made me start looking at Alexandra in a different way, with opened eyes. She has a vivid imagination and is also just a very sensitive kind of kid. She is the 5 year old who will forgo running around just to hang out with a baby (especially if the baby is her cousin Summer). She is always worried about me (Susan) when I am sick or not feeling the greatest. She comes and checks up on me and covers me up. Alexandra has also sufferered from nightmares and night terrors since she was about 18 months old, so we have tried to keep her away from any remotely scary movies or cartoons. This leaves out most of the Disney movies out there, trust me, we've thought about them all.

We had to go to St. Louis (2 hours away) for a doctor's appointment, so we borrowed Robin Hood from a friend. It is one of my all times favorites and there isn't anything really scary in it - that is to us. During the movie, a few times, Alexandra was close to tears, worrying about Robin Hood and the other characters, wondering if they would be okay. We had to reassure her a few times that everything would be okay and that Robin Hood would save the day. The end could not have come fast enough. The wedding at the end made her happy and forget about her tears. But it reminded John and I again, that our oldest is a different kind of kid. She absorbs things on a deeper level and always has. And that is who God made her. We are thankful for who she is and who she is growing up to be.
