We now have a five year old. She came into our lives five years ago at 8:08 am and nothing has ever been the same. Alexandra is our giggler, our fun maker. Without her, our lives would be devoid of much laughter. She is our photographer and our reader. For her birthday, she received a princess tea set that she had been wanting and some books (along with some other things). Everything else lost its luster compared with new books. We have already read three of them and I imagine that the rest will be read tomorrow.
I still remember meeting her for the first time and rubbing my cheek against hers. It is a tradition in my family for the mother to tell their child about the day they were born on their birthday. Alexandra knows her story by heart already because she requests it so often. She and I began the day by snuggling in bed and with me telling her story to her. It was so special - just a few moments reliving one of the most wonderful days of my life.
